Job Title: Lead Process Engineer
Location: Gloucester
Pay Range: £45,000 - £55,000
Contract Type: Perm
As the Lead Process Engineer, you will play a key role in enhancing the organisation’s production efficiency, quality, and consistency by developing robust process controls, improving production flow, and reducing waste. You will also lead the training and implementation of new products and processes using standardised methodologies aligned to APQP and Lean principles.
Key Responsibilities – Lead Process Engineer
- Champion process engineering maturity across the organisation, delivering internal training aligned with APQP standards.
- Act as deputy for the Process Engineering Manager as required.
- Lead and execute daily process engineering activities within your allocated value stream team.
- Utilise standard tools (e.g., VSM, Yamazumi, Spaghetti Diagrams, MOST Time Studies) to optimise manufacturing processes.
- Co-lead PFMEA and Control Plan development with Quality Engineers and ensure implementation of supporting process controls.
- Ensure live and accurate SOPs are maintained for all production processes.
- Develop and maintain detailed production process maps and documentation.
- Identify and drive process efficiency improvements to enhance production flow and reduce waste and costs.
- Manage tooling within the assigned value stream.
- Continuously monitor and analyse process data to propose actionable improvements.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting to resolve process-related issues and improve OEE.
- Lead process engineering efforts in New Product Introduction (NPI), working cross-functionally across departments.
- Support and participate in Lean events and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to root cause investigations, driving corrective and preventive action implementation.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of the Business Management System (BMS).
- Assist in the development of written procedures and policies for the Process Engineering function.
- Routinely report on key Process Engineering KPIs.
- Support the creation and execution of the annual improvement plan for the Process Engineering team.
- Support internal and external audit activities related to process engineering.
- Ensure full compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Stay updated with emerging process engineering technologies, tools, and best practices
Qualifications & Requirements – Lead Process Engineer
- Proven Process Engineering experience in a complex manufacturing environment.
- Proficient in standard process engineering tools: Yamazumi, MOST Time Study, SOPs, VSM, SPC, Spaghetti Diagrams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of process safety, risk assessment, and relevant regulatory standards.
- Comfortable working across functions and influencing multiple stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects to tight deadlines.
- Skilled in interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T.
