Role Overview – CNC Milling Machinist

Are you an experienced CNC Miller looking to join a high precision engineering environment? This permanent role offers the chance to work within an advanced CNC machining facility, producing complex prototype, R&D and low volume components.

In this position, you will be responsible for setting, operating and supporting programming across multi axis CNC milling and turning equipment from 3 to 6 axis. You will take ownership of tooling selection, programme prove outs and the delivery of high accuracy machined parts. You will also contribute to machining process development, tooling improvements and fixture optimisation.

Key Responsibilities – CNC Milling Machinist

  • Set up, operate and support programming on multi axis CNC milling and turning machines from 3 to 6 axis.
  • Select tooling, prepare setups and complete programme prove outs.
  • Machine one off and small batch components to tight tolerances.
  • Support ongoing refinement and development of machining processes.
  • Assist with fixture and tooling improvements and collaborate with tooling suppliers.
  • Provide guidance and support to less experienced machinists and apprentices.
  • Work confidently from engineering drawings, specifications and manufacturing documentation.
  • Identify process improvements and contribute to optimising workshop efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and support corrective action activities.
  • Manage workloads to meet production targets and maximise machine utilisation.
  • Maintain high quality standards and support continuous improvement initiatives.

 Key Experience and Qualifications – CNC Milling Machinist

  • Solid experience in a precision CNC machining environment.
  • Strong CNC milling background is essential; turning experience is advantageous.
  • Confident using Fanuc, Siemens and Heidenhein control systems for programming and post processing.
  • Knowledge of CAD CAM platforms including EdgeCAM, MasterCAM, Fusion 360 or similar.
  • Skilled in multi axis machining from 3 to 5 axis.
  • Strong understanding of inspection methods and precision metrology equipment.
  • Able to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and supporting documentation.
  • Strong problem solving skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Familiarity with general workshop practices and manufacturing operations.
  • Proficient with MS Office and MRP or ERP systems.
  • Clear, confident communication and reporting skills.
